New conservation area due to Marubis donation |

MARUBIS e.V, the association for protection of marine endangered species and biotope protection, has been donating 4500 Euro to our project to counteract against the loss of mangrove forests. We will continue with the ongoing restoration in Velivayal and will extend now with their support with the building of new protective fields near the village Adaikkathevan at the mouth of the river Ambuliyar. We will start soon with fencing, canal repair and construction of the needed mangrove nurseries. |
The value of nature is seldom recorded arithmetical. This will change soon. Natures financially value become more and more worked out and calculated. In Peter Hogarth´s study “The biology of mangroves and sea grasses”, he assesses a hectare of mangrove forest with 9.900 USD a year (Page 236). On this basis, a reafforestation of the mangrove area in Palk Bay has a arithmetical value of 495.000 USD. In comparison with this, a mangrove satling costs one Euro and a sponsorship 50 €.
